Test Development
In addition to standardised, and other routine corrosion tests, our staff are able to develop new test methods to address customers' specific requirements. When a new material is considered for use, and no industry-accepted test method is appropriate, we can assess the relevance and applicability of existing test methods for this material. When material selection is required for a new process, we can devise a new test method to address the unknown corrosion problems that might be encountered.
Recent test method development work has included crevice corrosion of stainless steels in sea water. Although standard methods exist, recent advances in understanding of the mechanism of crevice corrosion permitted significant improvements to be made in testing. This led to a new, rapid test technique that is now more economic to use and is fully substantiated using the considerable experience of our senior staff in this subject.
