Corrosion Surveys
Since corrosion leads to loss of functionality, and even loss of integrity, of structures and plant it is necessary to establish the condition of these items. This is achieved through a corrosion survey.
Corrosion surveys are undertaken by our experienced corrosion engineers. After an initial meeting to go through the process and materials of construction, we develop the inspection strategy to ensure that key components of the plant are prioritised. Some corrosion surveys can be undertaken with the plant in operation but many require internal access during planned shutdown.
A range of non-destructive techniques are available to measure wall thickness and to examine for pitting corrosion and cracking. Particular attention is given to assessing the material for the degradation mechanisms that are predicted to occur on the various constructional materials in the process conditions.
The outcome of a corrosion survey by STL's Corrosion division is a comprehensive review of the state of the plant, in terms of the condition of its materials of construction. This report can include recommendations for corrosion monitoring, a corrosion control strategy and a remnant life assessment if required.
