Corrosion Control Strategy and Planning
For a new product, a new process, or in an aftermath of a corrosion failure, it is beneficial to implement a corrosion control strategy. These strategies encompass the spectrum from 'nothing' (i.e. fit and forget), through planned interval inspection to continuous corrosion monitoring.

The use of a wide range of materials of construction in an equally wide range of corrosive conditions has resulted in the development of many different corrosion control techniques. Building on our fundamental understanding of the behaviour of these materials in these environments, STL's Corrosion division works with its customers to develop appropriate strategies to control corrosion within acceptable limits.

Examples of corrosion control techniques are:

  • painting and plating
  • cathodic protection
  • anodic protection
  • chemical treatment
  • corrosion inhibition

Where adequate control cannot be achieved, alternative approaches which are still available include changing materials of construction, monitoring and planned periodic replacement.
