Electrochemical Testing
Electrochemical test techniques for corrosion rate determination, crevice corrosion performance and resistance to pitting corrosion are in widespread use. We offer these services as routine tests and as part of materials selection and research and development programmes.

Standard electrochemical tests include ASTM G59 polarisation resistance measurements (to determine corrosion rates) and ASTM G61 cyclic potentiodynamic polarisation measurements (to assess pitting and crevice corrosion resistance).

Other routine electrochemical tests include critical pitting temperature testing, which is used for material quality control.

In-house test methods have been developed for the testing of crevice corrosion.

Electrochemical testing is usually conducted in standard laboratory glassware, and hence is limited to certain temperatures and pressure conditions. Our facilities include autoclaves in which electrochemical testing may be undertaken in high temperature, high pressure conditions. These employ Cortest high temperature reference electrodes.
