Contract Research
The Corrosion division of STL has an international reputation for conducting first class research in corrosion. Contract research is typically performed for individual customers on specific problems of a confidential nature, such as alloy development, and for groups of customers with a common problem.
We have undertaken focused contract research for a number of material suppliers, oil and gas operating companies and government bodies in the UK and overseas. This research has covered a variety of corrosion phenomena and a range of materials from martensitic stainless steels to high nickel alloys.
Multi-client research programmes enable significant research effort to be made and are cost effective for our clients. Recent programmes have included testing austenitic stainless steel compression fittings for use in sour service, extending the use of martensitic stainless steels in sour high temperature oil and gas production tubing and developing improved crevice corrosion test methods for stainless steels.
These programmes draw on the experience of our senior staff, and use our extensive laboratory test facilities and the in-house facilities available within Sheffield Testing Laboratories Ltd.
